LOTTI: the 5th Interregional Meeting in Brindisi paves the way for a locally-driven industrial transition

Brindisi, April 8-9, 2025 – Resolvo participated in the fifth interregional meeting of the LOTTI (Local identity driving traditional industry transition) project, hosted by the Department of Economic Development of the Puglia Region. The event brought together project partners as well as key stakeholders from Finland, Italy, Poland, and Ireland.

Leveraging local best practices

The LOTTI project aims to harness best practices identified during its implementation to drive policy improvements in regional development. With a focus on preserving and valorising local identity within the industrial transition – especially within the framework of Smart Specialisation Strategies (S3) – participants engaged in working sessions. They shared insights on specific policy instruments and presented “highroad-maps” which visually outline strategic pathways for enhancing these instruments. These initiatives have been enriched by various project activities, including bilateral matchmaking sessions, surveys on capacity needs, and local dialogues with citizens.

In-depth discussions and study visits

A key component of the meeting was the Steering Committee session that gathered all project partners. In addition, the hosting partner organsed two study visits that were closely aligned with the project’s objectives:

  • Oasi del Cillarese, Brindisi: this wildlife protection reserve, which also serves as an urban park and ecological network, features the Cillarese Reservoir—a critical water source for the city’s industrial area.
  • Castello Aragonese & Valle Fiorita Srl, Taranto: this visit provided a deep dive into the dynamics of a Just Transition in the strategically significant Taranto area. In this context, the designation of Puglia as a Regional Innovation Valley (RIV) is set to enhance ties with other regions pursuing similar sustainable development goals.

Conclusion

The interregional meeting of the LOTTI project proved to be an invaluable forum for sharing experiences and strategising around a sustainable industrial future anchored in local identity. Resolvo will continue to closely monitor the project’s progress and the various initiatives that integrate innovation, territorial development, and forward-thinking regional policies.
